Fate |
Interned on 8 September 1943 at Vigo, Spain. Transferred to Loch Ryan, Scotland from El Ferrol, Spain on 23 July 1945. Operation Deadlight (post-war Allied operation, info) | |||||||||
U-760 had been damaged in an air attack on 12 August 1943 and was returning to port when both diesel engines failed west of Cape Finisterre. With weak batteries the boat had no chance to reach France and the BdU allowed it to enter Vigo, Spain on 8 September 1943. As it was impossible to leave again within 24 hours the Spanish authorities interned U-760 according to neutrality laws, put it under supervision of the Spanish Navy cruiser Navarra and later transferred to boat to El Ferrol where it remained until the end of the war.
Wolfpack operations
U-760 operated with the following Wolfpacks during its career:
Iller (12 May 1943 - 15 May 1943)
Donau 1 (15 May 1943 - 26 May 1943)
