Missing since 30 August 1943 in the Bay of Biscay west of La Rochelle. Possibly sank in a diving accident during a deep dive trial in approx. position 45.33N, 03.50W on 30 August 1943. 52 dead (all hands lost). (Axel Niestlé, June 2009). | |||||||||

U-669 made a deep dive trial after leaving St. Nazaire on 30 August 1943 but did not report back to its escorts and was posted as missing on 8 September 1943 after it also failed to report its passage of the Bay of Biscay.
Previously recorded fate
- Sunk 7 Sept 1943 in the Bay of Biscay northwest of Cape Ortegal, Spain,
in position 43.36N, 10.13W, by depth charges from a Canadian aircraft (RCAF-Sqdn. 407). (Postwar assessment)
Notes. This attack was actually against U-584 inflicting no damages.
