Onboard U-990 were the survivors from the sunken U-476. The German patrol vessel V 5901 rescued 51 crew members of both crews (18 from U-476).

Wolfpack operations

U-990 operated with the following Wolfpacks during its career:
   Werwolf (28 Jan 1944 - 27 Feb 1944)
   Orkan (5 Mar 1944 - 10 Mar 1944)

   Blitz (2 Apr 1944 - 4 Apr 1944)

Men lost from U-boats

Unlike many other U-boats, which during their service lost men due to accidents and various other causes, U-990 did not suffer any casualties (we know of) until the time of her loss.
