Fate |
Sunk on 24 February 1945 in the English Channel south-east of Falmouth, in position 49.54N, 04.45W, by depth charges from a British Warwick aircraft (179 Sqn RAF/K). 47 dead (all hands lost). | |||||||||
Loss position |
U-927 sent its last radio message on 8 February 1945 from approx. position 59.50N, 05.00W while en route to its operational area in the English Channel. There is serious doubt that the fate stated above is correct because no U-boat wreck has yet been found around the attack position despite extensive searches by the UK Hydrographic Office and other parties.
Schnorchel-fitted U-boat
This boat was fitted with a Schnorchel underwater-breathing apparatus and sailed equipped with it in January 1945 but it was of course installed prior to that date.
Read more about the Schnorchel and see list of fitted boats.
Men lost from U-boats
Unlike many other U-boats, which during their service lost men due to accidents and various other causes, U-927 did not suffer any casualties (we know of) until the time of her loss.
