The hunt for U-358 started on 29 February 1944. HMS Affleck, HMS Gould, HMS Gore and HMS Garlies dropped 104 depth charges during this and the next day. HMS Gore and HMS Garlies had to withdraw to Gibraltar for fuel, but the other two frigates continued the attack. U-358 succeeded in torpedoing HMS Gould, but was then forced to the surface and finished off by gunfire from HMS Affleck.

Attacks on this boat and other events

5 May 1943
The target of the depth charge attack on 5 May 1943, south of Cape Farewell, Greenland in position 54.56N, 43.44W, by the British corvette HMS Pink, formerly credited with sinking U-192, was actually U-358, which suffered severe damage. (Sources: 1991-10-01, FDS/NHB)

1 recorded attack on this boat.

Men lost from U-boats

Unlike many other U-boats, which during their service lost men due to accidents and various other causes, U-358 did not suffer any casualties (we know of) until the time of her loss.
