Sunk on 29 November 1939 in the North Sea north-west of Bergen, in position 60.53N, 02.47E, by depth charges from the British destroyers HMS Kashmir, HMS Kingston and HMS Icarus. 43 survivors (no casualties).

Attacks on this boat and other events

HMS Ursula (N 59) (Lt.Cdr. G.C. Philips, RN) fired the first British submarine torpedoes of the war in unsuccessfully attacking U-35 and U-21 with a spread of five torpedoes some 23 miles (37 km) north of the Dutch island of Schiermonnikoog in position 53º52'N 06º05'E. (Sources: Dr. Jürgen Rohwer)

During early 1937 Kptlt. Rösing made a patrol with U-35 to Ponta Delgada in the Azores.
