Attacks on this boat and other events
17 Sep 1939
British submarine HMS Seahorse (96 S) fired a spread of three torpedoes at U-36, which had just stopped to question a neutral Danish steamer. The U-boat was lucky to escape harm, as one of the torpedoes passed directly underneath her. (Sources: Dr. Jürgen Rohwer, Herbert Ritschel)
1 recorded attack on this boat.
Men lost from U-boats
Unlike many other U-boats, which during their service lost men due to accidents and various other causes, U-36 did not suffer any casualties (we know of) until the time of her loss.

There was another U-36 in World War One
That boat was launched from its shipyard on 6 Jun 1914 and commissioned into the Imperial Navy on 14 Nov 1914. The Naval war in WWI was brought to an end with the Armistice signed on 11 Nov, 1918. Read about SM U 36 during WWI.
