This boat was fitted with a Schnorchel underwater-breathing apparatus and sailed equipped with it in January 1945 but it was of course installed prior to that date.

Men lost from the boat
17 Jun 1944
An accident took place on 17 June during U-1018's working up exercises in the Baltic in which one man died and two were wounded. [Obersteuermann Walter Nellsen]
