Attacks on U-255 during this patrol
9 Mar 1944
The boat located a big tanker convoy, CU 16, and went in to attack. She was herself attacked by surface escorts, but managed to sink the USS Leopold. U-255 escaped after being hunted for three hours. (Sources: Blair, vol 2, page 503)
11 Mar 1944
Two men were wounded in an aircraft attack. After a failed attempt to meet U-608, which had a doctor on board, the men's wounds were treated and the boat continued on patrol.
27 Mar 1944
Unidentified aircraft attacked the boat off Gibraltar as she attempted to enter the Mediterranean, forcing her return to France. (Sources: Blair, vol 2, page 508)
11 Apr 1944
After being attacked by aircraft off Gibraltar on 27 March the inbound U-255 was caught on the surface with her escort by 15 British Mosquito aircraft. These were in turn attacked by German Ju-88 aircraft. The boat reached St. Nazaire with minor damage. (Sources: Blair, vol 2, page 508)
