General Events during this patrol
1942
6 Nov 1942. A difficult day for U-boats in the Mediterranean. On this day three U-boats in this operational area were attacked by enemy aircraft: U-77 (twice), U-81, and U-458. All boats suffered only slight damage and continued their patrols.
10 Nov 1942. U-77 fired four torpedoes at the aircraft carrier HMS Furious, with no result.
14 Nov 1942. U-77 rescued two airmen of the Junkers Ju88A-4/LT WNr 140088 (7./KG 26, 1T+AR) in the Mediterranean Sea about 20 miles north of Algiers, Algeria at 1410hrs, one of them was the injured Staffelkapitän Hptm Klaus-Wilhelm Nocken. The aircraft had been shot down in aerial combat on 9 November with the loss of two crewmen.
