Attacks on U-660 during this patrol
25 Aug 1942
1431hrs, south of Greenland: HNoMS Potentilla and HMS Viscount were rejoining convoy ONS-122 when HNoMS Potentilla obtained a radar contact. Three minutes later (and not previously visible due to foggy conditions), U-660 was sighted. Fearing damage to herself from ramming, HMS Viscount forced the U-boat to dive by opening fire, and after an abortive initial approach dropped five heavy depth charges. HMS Viscount then attempted a Hedgehog attack, but lost Asdic contact, as did HNoMS Potentilla. They were unable to regain contact and returned to the convoy after dropping single depth charges for about an hour. U-660 was not damaged. (Sources: ADM reports, KTB U-660)
