General Events during this patrol
1940
16 Aug 1940. After U-100 surfaced after sinking Empire Merchant, the boat suddenly dived again due to a handling error and Schepke, standing alone on the bridge, was forced to close the conning tower hatch to prevent the boat sinking. He clung to the periscope standard until the boat resurfaced. Schepke noted in the KTB (War Diary) entry that it must have been a funny sight for the survivors in the lifeboat to see a German U-boat commander in such an embarrassing situation. BdU (U-boat Command) was not amused.
