Career information
Towards the end of 1944 Rayner was appointed senior officer of a Castle corvette support group, the 30th Escort Group. He commanded the HMS Pevensey Castle (K 449) in that role.
In the closing months of the war he was stationed at Portsmouth serving with the Channel Command in a senior staff role.

Scott, RNR) and HMS Kenilworth Castle (Lt. J.J. Allon, RNR) south of Ireland, in position 50°24'N, 09°10'W, formerly credited with the destruction of the German U-boat U-1200, were actually made against a non-sub target.
