During 1941 Kasch served as gunnery officer of the famous raider Atlantis.
On 9 Oct, 1942 Kasch took command of the very heavily damaged U-333 from Peter Cremer who has very seriously wounded from battle with HMS Crocus. Kasch was stationed on the U-107 and transferred over to the damaged boat with the intention of taking her home to France (Blair, 1998).
A day out of France on Oct 21 the surfaced boat was attacked by former German U-570, then operating as British HMS Graph, but alert crew managed to avert disaster.
Kasch, having successfully completed his mission, left the boat for Germany to take command of a new type IX boat - the U-540.
