German U-boat U-556 was sunk in the North Atlantic south-west of Iceland, in position 60°24'N, 29°00'W, by depth charges from the British corvettes HMS Nasturtium (Lt.Cdr. R.C. Freaker, RNR), HMS Celandine (Lt.Cdr. A. Harrison, RNR) and HMS Gladiolus (Lt.Cdr. H.M.C. Sanders, DSO, DSC, RNR).
10 Sep 1942
HMS Celandine (Lt. P.V. Collings, RNR) picks up 44 survivors from the Belgian merchant Elisabeth van Belgie that was torpedoed and sunk by German U-boat U-96 in the convoy ON-127 in the North Atlantic.
14 Sep 1942
HMS Celandine (Lt. P.V. Collings, RNR) picks up 49 survivors from HMCS Ottawa that was torpedoed and sunk by German U-boat U-91 north-east of St. John’s, Newfoundland.
25 Nov 1943
