USS Moray (T/Cdr. F.L. Barrows, USN) departed Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for New London, Connecticut. She is escorted until New York by USS YMS-111 (Lt. F.A. Bledsoe, USNR).

USS Moray (T/Cdr. F.L. Barrows, USN) conducted a deep submergence trial in Long Island Sound. She was escorted by USS George W. Ingram (Lt.Cdr. A.S. Boyce, USNR)

During exercises in Block Island Sound, USS Moray (T/Cdr. F.L. Barrows, USN) collided with the barge Annapolis sinking it in position 41°19'54"N, 71°38'36"W. USS Moray is not seriously damaged.

USS Moray returned to New London and was immediately docked on the marine railway.

USS Moray (T/Cdr. F.L. Barrows, USN) and USS Gillette (Lt.Cdr. J.W. Daniel, Jr. USNR) arrived at Cristobal, Panama Canal Zone. They made the passage of the canal later the same day and then arrived at Balboa.

USS Moray (T/Cdr. F.L. Barrows, USN) conducted exercises in Panama Bay together with USS MacLeish (Lt. D.S. Cramer, USNR).

USS Moray (T/Cdr. F.L. Barrows, USN), USS Carp (Lt.Cdr. J.L. Hunnicutt, USNR) and USS Runner (T/Cdr. R.H. Bass) departed Balboa, Panama Canal Zone for Pearl Harbour. The amphibious attack cargo ship USS Woodford (T/Capt. W.P. Folk, USN) was also in company until 1400TU/15. While in company exercises were carried out with the attack cargo ship.

21 May 1945
USS Moray (T/Cdr. F.L. Barrows, USN), USS Carp (Lt.Cdr. J.L. Hunnicutt, USNR) and USS Runner (T/Cdr. R.H. Bass) arrived at Pearl Harbor from Balboa, Panama Canal Zone. On arrival they were taken in hand for voyage repairs and some alterations following which all three commenced their final training before being ready to go on their first patrols.

USS Moray (T/Cdr. F.L. Barrows, USN) conducted exercises off Pearl Harbour with USS Burden R. Hastings (Lt. J.W. Stivers, USNR) and USS Charles R. Greer (Lt. A.G. Raht, USNR).

USS Moray (T/Cdr. F.L. Barrows, USN) conducted exercises off Pearl Harbour.

3 Jun 1945
USS Angler (Lt.Cdr. H. Bissell, Jr., USNR) and USS Moray (T/Cdr. F.L. Barrows, USN) conducted exercises off Pearl Harbour with USS Burden R. Hastings (Lt. J.W. Stivers, USNR), USS Loeser (Lt.Cdr. J. Proctor, USNR). In the evening USS Allen (Lt. J.A. Rowe, USN) also joined for a few hours.

They remained out for exercises during the night of 3/4 June. In the morning of the 4th, USS Loeser was detached while USS Florikan (T/Lt. D. Hima, USN) and USS Howard (Lt.Cdr. F.W. Diehl, USNR) joined. In the afternoon USS Pruitt (Lt. D.B. Harby, USNR) also joined.

5 Jun 1945
USS Barb (T/Cdr. E.B. Fluckey, USN) and USS Moray (T/Cdr. F.L. Barrows, USN) conducted exercises off Pearl Harbour with USS Darby (Lt.Cdr. M.W. Martin, USNR) and USS Florikan (T/Lt. D. Hima, USN).

8 Jun 1945
Around 1640VW/8, USS Moray (T/Cdr. F.L. Barrows, USN), USS Carp (Lt.Cdr. J.L. Hunnicutt, USNR) both departed from Pearl Harbor for their 1st war patrol patrols. They were both ordered to patrol Honshu, Japan but were to top off with fuel and provisions at Saipan before proceeding to their patrol areas. They were escorted out by an unknown vessel until dark on the 8th.

20 Jun 1945
USS Moray (T/Cdr. F.L. Barrows, USN), USS Carp (Lt.Cdr. J.L. Hunnicutt, USNR) arrived at Saipan from Pearl Harbour. They were then both taken in hand for voyage repairs by USS Orion (T/Capt. E.R. Hannon, USN).

27 Jun 1945
Around 1500K/27, USS Cero (T/Lt.Cdr. R. Berthrong, USN), USS Angler (Lt.Cdr. H. Bissell, Jr., USNR), USS Lapon (T/Lt.Cdr. D.G. Baer, USN), USS Moray (T/Cdr. F.L. Barrows, USN), USS Carp (Lt.Cdr. J.L. Hunnicutt, USNR) and USS Sea Poacher (T/Lt.Cdr. C.F. Leigh, USN) all departed Saipan for patrol. They were escorted until 2020K/27 by USS Presley (Lt.Cdr. R.S. Paret, USNR).

All boats proceeded independently to their assigned lifeguard stations in the early afternoon of 1 July 1945.

10 Jul 1945
USS Moray (T/Cdr. F.L. Barrows, USN) torpedoed and sank the Japanese whaler Fumi Maru No.6 (361 GRT, built 1944) east of Kinkasan Island in position 38°11'N, 142°15'E.

1648I/10, Received a contact report from USS Kingfish. No course of speed of the enemy was received though.

2120I/10, In position 37°54'N, 142°30'E, obtained a radar contact and SJ interference on the same bearing. Looked like USS Kingfish and the contact she had reported earlier. Contacted USS Kingfish and decided that she was allowed to attack first closely followed by USS Moray.

2223I/10, Heard end of run explosions from the attack by USS Kingfish. Commenced attack. The enemy did not change course or speed after the attack by USS Kingfish.

2328I/10, In position 38°11'N, 142°15'E, fired five bow torpedoes, three at the first target from a range of 2300 yards and two at the second target from a range of 2900 yards.

2333I/10, Saw one hit resulting in one of the targets disintegrating in a burst of flame and smoke. Subsequently lost the target on the radar scope.

2335I/10, Heard and saw another explosion. Perhaps the other target was hit and damaged or the first target exploded on sinking.

1 Aug 1945
USS Moray (T/Cdr. F.L. Barrows) departed her patrol area in the Kuriles for Midway. The second half of her patrol she had spent in the Kuriles area mostly of lifeguard duties.

6 Aug 1945
USS Moray (T/Cdr. F.L. Barrows, USN) ended her 1st war patrol at Midway. She was then taken in hand for a tender refit by USS Bushnell (T/Capt. H.C. Fish, USN).

1 Sep 1945
The submarine tender USS Aegir (T/Capt. J.M. Boyd, USN) and the submarines USS Gurnard (T/Lt.Cdr. G.S. Simmons, 3rd, USN), USS Devilfish (T/Lt.Cdr. S.S. Mann, Jr., USN), USS Hackleback (T/Cdr. F.E. Janney, USN), USS Lionfish (T/Lt.Cdr. B.M. Ganyard, USN), USS Moray (T/Cdr. F.L. Barrows, USN), USS Aspro (T/Cdr. J.H. Ashley, Jr., USN) and USS Piranha (T/Cdr. D.G. Irvine, USN) departed Midway for the Mare Island Navy Yard where they arrived on 11 September.
