USS Angler (Lt.Cdr. H. Bissell, Jr., USNR) and USS Moray (T/Cdr. F.L. Barrows, USN) conducted exercises off Pearl Harbour with USS Burden R. Hastings (Lt. J.W. Stivers, USNR), USS Loeser (Lt.Cdr. J. Proctor, USNR). In the evening USS Allen (Lt. J.A. Rowe, USN) also joined for a few hours.
They remained out for exercises during the night of 3/4 June. In the morning of the 4th, USS Loeser was detached while USS Florikan (T/Lt. D. Hima, USN) and USS Howard (Lt.Cdr. F.W. Diehl, USNR) joined. In the afternoon USS Pruitt (Lt. D.B. Harby, USNR) also joined.

USS Moray (T/Cdr. F.L. Barrows, USN) torpedoed and sank the Japanese whaler Fumi Maru No.6 (361 GRT, built 1944) east of Kinkasan Island in position 38°11'N, 142°15'E.
1648I/10, Received a contact report from USS Kingfish. No course of speed of the enemy was received though.
2120I/10, In position 37°54'N, 142°30'E, obtained a radar contact and SJ interference on the same bearing. Looked like USS Kingfish and the contact she had reported earlier. Contacted USS Kingfish and decided that she was allowed to attack first closely followed by USS Moray.
2223I/10, Heard end of run explosions from the attack by USS Kingfish. Commenced attack. The enemy did not change course or speed after the attack by USS Kingfish.
2328I/10, In position 38°11'N, 142°15'E, fired five bow torpedoes, three at the first target from a range of 2300 yards and two at the second target from a range of 2900 yards.
2333I/10, Saw one hit resulting in one of the targets disintegrating in a burst of flame and smoke. Subsequently lost the target on the radar scope.
2335I/10, Heard and saw another explosion. Perhaps the other target was hit and damaged or the first target exploded on sinking.

USS Moray (T/Cdr. F.L. Barrows) departed her patrol area in the Kuriles for Midway. The second half of her patrol she had spent in the Kuriles area mostly of lifeguard duties.

USS Moray (T/Cdr. F.L. Barrows, USN) ended her 1st war patrol at Midway. She was then taken in hand for a tender refit by USS Bushnell (T/Capt. H.C. Fish, USN).
