Notes on event | At 06.20 hours on 13 Nov 1942 the unescorted Louise Moller (Master George Alexander Angus) was torpedoed and sunk by U-178 about 240 miles east by south of Durban. Eleven crew members were lost. The master, 20 crew members and two gunners were picked up by the British merchant Hopecrest and landed at East London. The chief officer and 28 crew members were picked up by the British destroyer leader HMS Douglas (D 90) (LtCdr R.B.S. Tennant) and landed at Durban. | ||
