Notes on event | At 21.18 hours on 9 Feb 1942 the unarmed and unescorted Tolosa (Master Harald N. Kruse) was hit underneath the funnel by one G7e torpedo from U-108 and sank fast by the bow after a boiler explosion. The U-boat surfaced and saw survivors clinging to swamped lifeboats, but could not assist them due the danger of an air attack. The ship was reported missing when she did not arrive in Chester on 10 February as expected. | ||
