Fred "Tiger" Bayliss was on watch at the helm when HMS Cassandra was torpedoed. He first thought that it had hit another ship and only realized later that being on watch probably saved his life as the bow section with the crew quarters had been blown away. His sister later named her daughter Cassandra.
