Notes on event | U-77 reported that she had sunk eight sailing vessels with gunfire between 22 July and 16 August 1942. Six of these vessels were Vassiliki, Toufic El Rahman, St. Simon, Ezzet, Kharouf and Daniel. The Adnan was only damaged and a unidentified sailing vessel was sunk on 7 August. The Daniel (HS 42), of approx. 100 tons, was sunk with 16 rounds from the deck gun about 55 miles west of Beirut at 23.34 hours on 16 August 1942. The crew abandoned ship in a boat and later safely reached Beirut. |
