Notes on event | U-77 reported that she had sunk eight sailing vessels with gunfire between 22 July and 16 August 1942. Six of these vessels were Vassiliki, Toufic El Rahman, St. Simon, Ezzet, Kharouf and Daniel. The Adnan was only damaged and a unidentified sailing vessel was sunk on 7 August. At 18.17 hours on 24 July 1942 the Toufic El Rahman (L 25) was stopped by a warning shot 30 miles east of Cape Greco and sunk with 25 rounds from the deck gun after the crew had abandoned ship. The survivors later reached Latakia in their lifeboat. |
