The damaged tanker Desmoulea (British, 8120 GRT, built 1939) departed Suda Bay in tow of the tug Irene Verenicos (?) [this is how the name is spelled in ADM 199/414]. They are escorted by the destroyer HMS Hotspur (Lt.Cdr. C.P.F. Brown, DSC, RN).
The next day HMS Hotspur is relieved by her sister ship HMS Hasty (Lt.Cdr. L.R.K. Tyrwhitt, RN) coming from Piraeus.
Due to the bad weather conditions the attempt to tow the Desmoulea was abandoned later on the 12th and she then returned to Suda Bay escorted by HMS Hasty. (2)
