22 Mar 1942
Engaged Italian naval forces at the Second Battle of the Syrte, sustaining severe damage from a hit scored by battleship Littorio. The hit caused a large fire in a boiler room and flooding of an engine room. She went dead in the water, but later the crew was able to bring the fire under control and she got underway for Malta on one boiler, arriving next day and entering dock for repairs.
