Career information
Cdr JM Rowland was A/Captain (D) Newfoundland in April 1944, according to a Watchkeeping Certificate, which was signed by Rowland. In his book "Betrayed: Scandal, Politics, and Canadian Naval Leadership", Richard O Mayne describes correspondence between Rowland and Commodore (D) Londonderry "Shrimp" Simpson regarding the issue of Canadian escort ships out-of-date equipment. It's reasonable to assume that Rowland was in "Newfyjohn" between commands at sea from early '43 to March '45.
