sunk with gunfire on 16 May 1941 about 420 nautical miles west-south-west of Freetown in position 05°03'N, 19°02'W by German U-boat U-105

HMS Boreas (Lt.Cdr. D.H. Maitland-Makgill Crichton, DSC, RN) picks up 61 survivors from the Dutch merchant Berhala that was torpedoed and sunk by German U-boat U-38 about 280 nautical miles west-north-west of Freetown in position 09°50’N, 17°50’W.

HMS Boreas (Lt.Cdr. D.H. Maitland-Makgill Crichton, DSC, RN) picks up 25 survivors from the Norwegian merchant Spind that was damaged by gunfire from German U-boat U-552 The destroyer sank the damaged Spind with gunfire east of Lisbon, Portugal in position 40°43'N, 11°39'W
Destroyer HMS Ithuriel (H 05)
12 Aug 1942
The Italian submarine Cobalto was rammed and sunk off Bizerta, Tunisia after being forced to surface after being depth charged by the British destroyers HMS Ithuriel (Lt.Cdr. D.H. Maitland-Makgill-Crichton, DSC, RN) and HMS Pathfinder (Cdr. E.A. Gibbs, DSO and Bar, RN). It was HMS Ithuriel that rammed the submarine.

At 0013A/28, HMS Ithuriel (Lt.Cdr. D.H. Maitland-Makgill-Crichton, DSO, DSC, RN) is badly holed by near misses from enemy aircraft while at anchor off Bone. She was towed into shallow water by HMS Quentin (Lt.Cdr. A.H.P. Noble, DSC, RN).
HMS Ithuriel was beached the following day. (1)
