History | The Storstad was the vessel that rammed the Canadian Pacific liner
Empress of Ireland in the St. Lawrence river in the fog of May 1914.
The Empress sank in 14 minutes with a heavy loss of life. The Storstad
survived, and she and her crew were the subject of a vast amount of
hostility in the aftermath. It is still unknown what exactly happened
that night, as both captains told different stories of the events. (Courtesy of Alastair Bryan)
