| Dunkerquois, Capt. Bodo, had left La Pallice on Aug.16 loaded with 3000 tons of asphalt for Dunkerque in convoy. At 10 pm the 18th, when about 7 miles NW of Ile de Batz LH, she was struck by a torpedo. A violent explosion followed and in less than 30 seconds the ship had disappeared. Out of a crew of 31, 15 men managed to escape and were saved by Phenix an escorting steamer, then landed at Cherbourg the following day.
