Helmut Manseck took what was only one of two type XXI Elektro U-boat U-boats to go on patrol, the U-3008, out to sea from Wilhelmshaven, just before the war ended, but unlike that of U-2511, it was not a war patrol (Feindfahrt).

Helmut Manseck joined the Federal German Navy (Bundesmarine) after the war (Rust, 2009). He retired as Kapitän zur See (e. Captain).
