Hans-Peter Mackeprang joined the Kriegsmarine in 1935. He served with the Coastal Defence Group Norwegian West Coast from Aug 1940 to July 1943. He went through U-boat training until Dec 1943 and then served as a Watch Officer with 23rd, 6th and 33rd U-boat flotillas until Dec 1944.
During his stint with the flotillas he served as the 2WO and 1WO on the U-758 from June to Dec 1944. U-boat commander course until Jan 1945. First Watch Officer on the U-244 during Feb to April 1945.
Mackeprang served as the acting commander on the U-244 until the end of the war. During that time he took the boat on a 30-day patrol around the British Isles.
