Siegfried Rollmann joined the Reichsmarine in 1934. He served on the light cruiser Karlsruhe from Nov 39 to March 1940, when he transferred to the U-boat force. He finished his U-boat training in Sept, and in Oct became 1st Watch Officer (IWO) on U-52 (Salmann). Rollmann went out on two patrols during which four ships were sunk.

In March 1941 Oblt. Rollmann started his U-boat commander training with the 24th (Training) Flotilla, finishing the course in April, when he was sent for U-boat construction familiarization (Baubelehrung).

Oblt. Siegfried Rollmann commissioned U-82 on 14 May 1941. Rollmann enjoyed success with U-82: during three patrols the boat sank ten ships totalling over 53,000 GRT, and damaged another of 1,999 tons.

U-82 was sunk with all hands on 6 Feb 1942 by HMS Rochester and HMS Tamarisk close to convoy ON-18, while returning from the US coast (Niestlé, 1998). Rollmann had reported sighting a small convoy while inbound to Lorient, and had been ordered to shadow it, but nothing more was heard from him subsequently.
