27 Nov 1943. U-238 rescued two pilots from a Wellington bomber from 172 Sqdn RAF which had been shot down by U-764.
27 Nov 1943. U-238 rescued two British airmen from a rubber dinghy in the North Atlantic about 380 miles west of Lisbon, Portugal at 2212hrs. They were from the Wellington Mk.XIV HF153 (172 Sqn RAF/O, pilot P/O T.B. Wilkin) which had been on anti-submarine patrol and shot down by AA fire when it attacked the nearby U-764 at 2130hrs.
