German U-boat U-166 was sunk in the Gulf of Mexico south-east of New Orleans, in position 28°40'N, 88°30'W, by depth charges from the US patrol vessel USS PC-566.
USS PC-566 also picks up survivors from the American passenger ship Robert E. Lee that was U-166 last victim.
