Convoy KN 209.

This convoy departed Key West on 18 November 1942.

It was made up of the following merchant vessels; Cacalilao (American (tanker), 7045 GRT, built 1919), Camaguey (Cuban, 1399 GRT, built 1931), Chirripo (Hunduran, 5357 GRT, built 1920), City of Philadelphia (American, 2674 GRT, built 1919), Daniel Boone (American, 7176 GRT, built 1942), Empire Gold (British (tanker), 8028 GRT, built 1941), Empire Opal (British (tanker), 9811 GRT, built 1941), Empire Porpoise (British, 7592 GRT, built 1918), Gulfmaid (American (tanker), 5225 GRT, built 1917), Gulfwing (American (tanker), 10217 GRT, built 1928), Henry M. Dawes (American (tanker), 4788 GRT, built 1916), Julian Alonso (Cuban, 1027 GRT, built 1908), Jurko Topic (Yugoslavian, 5202 GRT, built 1919), L. L. Abshire (American (tanker), 6785 GRT, built 1917), Pan-Georgia (American (tanker), 8197 GRT, built 1919), Polartank (Norwegian (tanker), 6356 GRT, built 1930), Schuylkill (British (tanker), 8965 GRT, built 1928), Solarium (British, 6239 GRT, built 1936), Watertown (American (tanker), 6408 GRT, built 1919) and William Penn (American (tanker), 8440 GRT, built 1921).

The new-built escort carrier HMS Battler (A/Capt. F.M.R. Stephenson, RN) was also taking passage in this convoy.

The convoy was escorted by the gunboat USS Plymouth (T/Cdr. F.W. Schmidt, USN), patrol vessels USS Calypso (?), USCGC Pandora (?), USS PC-546 (Lt. W.L. Dommerich, USNR) and USS PC-548 (Lt. D.C. Drinkwater, USNR).

The convoy arrived at New York on 23 November 1942. Some ships may have been detached from the convoy during the passage though. (1)
