History | Displacement: 282 tons. Wrecked on the Yorkshire coast on 2 March 1940. According to local fishermen, she was 'sitting pretty' and could easily have been pulled off on the next high tide. However the Captain refused the help of the fishermen and prefered instead to wait for an Admiralty tug. The result was that the tide turned Fairplay further onto the rocks and she broke her back before the tug arrived. |
