The destroyer tender Tyne (Capt. G.A. Scott, DSC, RN) and the destroyer HMS Jupiter (Lt.Cdr. N.V.J.P. Thew, RN) and HMAS Nestor (Cdr. A.S. Rosenthal, RAN) conducted exercises off Scapa Flow. (1)
13 Dec 1942
Rear-Admiral R.L. Burnett, CB, DSO, OBE, RN, transferred his flag from Tyne (Capt. C.T.M. Pizey, CB, DSO and Bar, RN) to HMS Sheffield (Capt. A.W. Clarke, RN). (2)
6 Jan 1943
Around 1615A/6, HMS Sheffield (Capt. A.W. Clarke, RN, flying the flag of Rear-Admiral R.L. Burnett, CB, DSO, OBE, RN) and HMS Jamaica (Capt. J.L. Storey, RN) arrived at Scapa Flow from Seidisfjord.
Rear-Admiral Burnett then struck his flag in HMS Sheffield and hoisted it in Tyne (Capt. C.T.M. Pizey, CB, DSO and Bar, RN). (3)
12 Jan 1943
Rear-Admiral R.L. Burnett, CB, OBE, RN, commanding the 10th Cruiser Squadron, hoisted his flag in HMS Belfast (Capt. F.R. Parham, RN) after having struck his flag as Rear-Admiral destroyers in Tyne (Capt. C.T.M. Pizey, CB, DSO and Bar, RN). (4)
3 Jan 1945
From 3 to 5 January 1945, the battleship HMS Queen Elizabeth (Capt. H.G. Norman, CBE, RN) conducted exercises and trials off Trincomalee. She was escorted by the destroyers HMS Rotherham (Capt. H.W. Biggs, DSO and Bar, RN) and HMS Rocket (Lt.Cdr. H.B. Acworth, OBE, RN).
Before the start of the exercises Vice Admiral H.C.T. Walker, CB, RN, temporary transferred his flag to Tyne (Capt. S. Boucher, RN). The flag was transferred back upon HMS Queen Elizabeth returning to harbour. (5)
26 Jan 1945
Ships belonging to the Fleet Train of the British Pacific Fleet departed Trincomalee for Fremantle. These were the destroyer deport ship Tyne (Capt. S. Boucher, RN), repairs ships HMS Resource (Capt.(Retd.) D.B. O’Connell, RN), Artifex (A/Capt.(Retd.) C.C. Flemming, RN) and the target ship HMS Lewes (T/Lt. M.H. Grylls, SANF(V)). The tanker Battle Rock (American, 10448 GRT, built 1944) was also in company with these ships.
Escort was provided by the heavy cruiser London and the minesweepers HMAS Cairns (T/Lt. N.G. Weber, RANR(S)), HMAS Cessnock (Lt. A.G. Chapman, RANR(S)), HMAS Gawler (Lt.Cdr. J.H.P. Dixon, RANR(S)), HMAS Geraldton (Cdr. J.K. Walton, RAN), HMAS Ipswich (T/Lt. R.H. Creasey, RANR(S)), HMAS Tamworth (T/Lt. D.B. Lloyd-Jones, RANR(S)) and HMAS Wollongong (T/Lt. J. Hare, RANR(S)).
They arrived at Fremantle on 9 February 1945. (6)
23 May 1945
Around 0600K/23, the destroyer tender HMS Tyne (Capt. S. Boucher, RN) departed Leyte for Manus. She was escorted by the destroyer HMAS Nizam (A/Lt.Cdr. W.F. Cook, RAN). (7)
28 May 1945
Around 0700K/28, HMS Tyne (Capt. S. Boucher, RN) and HMAS Nizam (A/Lt.Cdr. W.F. Cook, RAN) arrived at Manus from Leyte.
After having fuelled they departed for Sydney around 1800K/28. (7)
4 Jun 1945
Around 0800K/4, HMS Tyne (Capt. S. Boucher, RN) and HMAS Nizam (A/Lt.Cdr. W.F. Cook, RAN) arrived at Sydney from Manus. (8)
