HrMs O 9 (Lt. J.B.M.J. Maas, RNN) participated in A/S exercises off Tobermory together with HMS Hadleigh Castle (T/A/Lt.Cdr. H.V. Gordon, DSC, RNVR), HMS Avon (Lt.Cdr. P.G.A. King, RD, RNR) and HMS Herschell (T/Lt. J.E. Freestone, RNR). (1)
8 Mar 1944
HMS Unison (T/Lt. P.C.S. Pritchard, RNR) and HMS United (Lt. N.R. Wood, RN) departed Plymouth for Rothesay. They were escorted HMS Herschell (T/Lt. J.E. Freestone, RNR) and HMS Daffodil (Cdr.(Retd.) S.F. Russell, RN). (2)
12 Mar 1944
HMS Vampire (Lt. C.W. Taylor, RNR) departed Holy Loch for Gibraltar. Passage south through the Irish sea was made with HMS Tradewind (Lt.Cdr. S.L.C. Maydon, DSO and Bar, RN). They were escorted until 1120/14 by HMS Herschell (T/Lt. J.E. Freestone, RNR).

HMS Seraph (Lt. T. Russell-Walling, RN) conducted A/S exercises off Plymouth with HMS Olvina (A/Skr.Lt. C.G. Spillings, RNR) and HMS Herschell (T/Lt. J.E. Freestone, RNR). (4)
