Notable events involving Sluna include:
There is no island named Sluna. The name chosen by the Admiralty was Shuna named for two islands in the Hebrides. The builder, Cochrane, made a typographical error and the ship was named Sluna upon launching. Nobody either caught the error, or worried about it, so the name stuck. (1)
As of January 1942 she was part of the 6th. Trawler Group based at Plymouth. There were three other Isles class trawlers in the 6th. Group: Hildasay, Pladda, and Shappinsay.
