At 00.14 hours on 9 May 1940, the Doris (Capitaine De Corvette Jean Ernest Marie Favreul) was torpedoed and sunk about 30 nautical miles west of Petten, Netherlands in position 52º47'N, 03º49'E by the German submarine U-9.
