Never commissioned into US Navy, transferred to Britain as lend lease upon completion.

On 6 December 1944 HMS Bullen (Lt.Cdr. Anthony Heron Parish, RN) was torpedoed and sunk by U-775 west off Strathy Point, Scotland in position 58º30'N, 05º03'W. Of the 168 crewmembers on board 71 went down with the ship.

HMS Safari (Lt.Cdr.(Retd.) J.R.G. Harvey, RN) conducted attack exercises for the C.O.Q.C. (Commanding Officers Qualifying Course) in the Clyde area during which HMS Braithwaite (Lt.Cdr. E.M. Mackay, RD, RNR) and HMS Bullen (Lt. A.H. Parish, RN) served as the targets. These included night exercises. (1)

Around 0530B/6, HMS Nelson (Capt. A.H. Maxwell-Hyslop, AM, RN) departed Milford Haven for Plymouth where she arrived around 1930B/6. She was escorted by the destroyer HMS Duncan (Lt. D.G.D. Hall-Wright, RN) and the frigates HMS Goodall (Lt.Cdr. J.V. Fulton, RNVR) and HMS Bullen (Lt. A.H. Parish, RN). (2)
