Convoy PS 160T, made up of the following transports USS US Grant (AP 29, 9410 GRT, built 1907), USS Lynx (AK 100, 7176 GRT, built 1943), Duala (Norwegian, 1800 GRT, built 1938), Permanente (American, 9606 GRT, built 1902), Cape Cleare (American, 6711 GRT, built 1943) and the tanker Gulf Caribbean (American, 9299 GRT, built 1942) departed Pearl Harbour for San Francisco. The convoy was escorted by the frigate USS Rockford (M.C. McGuire, USCG) and the minesweeper USS Ardent (A.D. Curtis, USNR).
