History | USS Skill (Lt.Cdr. Edward Julius Kevern, USNR) sinks after being torpedoed by the German submarine U-593 in Salerno Gulf in position 40º20'N, 14º35'E. 72 were killed, including the commanding officer and only 31 survived, all were wounded; these survivors were rescued by USS Seer and USS Speed.
