Black Sea fleet.

Most likely mined off the western-Crimea after 1 December 1943.

Often reported as being sunk on 4 December 1943 by German auxiliary submarine chasers UJ-102, UJ-103, UJ-307, UJ-2305 and UJ-2308 near Cape Uret. But this attack was actually against Shch-209 lightly damaging this submarine.

1 Dec 1941
At 0914 hours D-4 fires 3 torpedoes at the Rumanian merchant Cavarna (3495 GRT) east of Cape Kaliakra, Bulgaria. The torpedoes however miss their target. The Cavarna was mined and sunk the next day 15 miles east of Burghaz, Bulgaria.

1 Jun 1943
At 1615 hours D-4 attacked a convoy and fired torpedoes at the Rumanian destroyer Marasesti. The torpedoes however miss their target.

At 1922 hours D-4 attacked the same convoy south-west of Yevpatoriya, Crimea in position 45°06'N, 32°52'E but fires her torpedoes at the Italian tanker Celeno (3741 GRT). Once again the torpedoes miss their target.

11 Aug 1943
At 2019 hours D-4 torpedoed and sank the German merchant Boy Federsen (6689 GRT, former Russian Charkov or Kharkov) about 20 nautical miles west-north-west of the Tarkhankut peninsula in position 44°58'N, 33°08'E. The Boy Federsen was already damaged the previous day by aerial torpedo.

20 Aug 1943
At 0847 hours D-4 torpedoed and sank the Bulgarian merchant Varna (2141 GRT) west of Cape Tarkhankut, Ukraine in position 45°13'N, 32°35'E.

17 Nov 1943
At 1000 hours D-4 fired torpedoes at the small German transport ship KT 25 / Danubius north-west of Yevpatoriya, Crimea. The torpedoes however miss their target.

18 Nov 1943
At 0541 hours D-4 fired torpedoes at the German auxiliary patrol vessel UJ 116/Xanten about 40 nautical miles south-west of the Tarkhankut peninsula, Crimea. The torpedoes however miss their target.

23 Nov 1943
At 1000 hours D-4 torpedoed and sank the German merchant Santa Fe (4627 GRT) south of Yevpatoriya, Crimea in position 45°05'N, 33°16'E.

29 Nov 1943
A German convoy reported being attacked by a submarine off Cape Tarkhankut in position 44°53'N, 33°15'E. If this convoy was indeed attacked it was most likely by D-4.

1 Dec 1943
From 1553-1602 hours Soviet submarine D-4 was spotted by the Soviet submarine Shch-209. D-4 was not heard or seen again.
