Converted to a Submarine Transport at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Vallejo, California and recommissioned on 20 May 1948. Decommissioned 31 March 1960. Laid up in the Pacific Reserve Fleet. Recommissioned 11 November 1961. Decommissioned and stricken 1 December 1971. Sold 15 January 1973 to be broken up for scrap.

USS Perch (ii) (Lt.Cdr. B.C. Hills) departed from Majuro for her 2nd war patrol. She was ordered to patrol in the Philippines.

USS Perch (ii) (Lt.Cdr. B.C. Hills) sank the Japanese guard boat Kannon Maru I-Go (115 GRT) with gunfire in the Philippine Sea, east of Dinagat Island in position 10°46'N, 127°13'E.

USS Perch (ii) (Lt.Cdr. B.C. Hills) ended her 2nd war patrol at Pearl Harbor.

15 Sep 1944
During 15/16 September 1944, USS Seadragon (Cdr. J.H. Ashley, Jr., USN), conducted exercises off Pearl Harbour together with USS Charles R. Greer (Cdr. A. Jackson, Jr., USNR), USS Greiner (Lt.Cdr. L.H. Kiser, USN), USS Eisele (Lt.Cdr. S.C. Ranta, USNR), USS Besugo (Cdr. T.L. Wogan, USN) and USS Perch (Cdr. B.C. Hills, USN). These exercises included night exercises.

19 Sep 1944
USS Perch (ii) (Lt.Cdr. B.C. Hills) departed from Pearl Harbor for her 3rd war patrol. She was ordered to patrol in the East China and Yellow Seas. At the end of this patrol Perch takes on board provisions and fuel at Saipan and then proceeded to Brisbane, Australia.

23 Sep 1944
Around 1530Y/23, USS Escolar (T/Cdr. W.J. Millican, USN), USS Perch (T/Cdr. B.C. Hills, USN) and USS Croaker (T/Cdr. J.E. Lee, USN) departed Midway as a coordinated attack group. T/Cdr. W.J. Millican was the group commander. They were to patrol in the East China and Yellow seas.

17 Oct 1944
In the evening, USS Escolar (T/Cdr. W.J. Millican, USN) has her last communication with USS Perch (T/Cdr. B.C. Hills, USN).

The group commander, T/Cdr. W.J. Millican, ordered USS Perch to patrol to the south of Nagasaki.

USS Escolar reported her own position as 33°44'N, 127°33'E and that it was her intention to proceed to position 33°44'N, 129°06'E.

This was the last that was ever heard of HMS Escolar.

19 Dec 1944
USS Perch (ii) (Lt.Cdr. B.C. Hills) departed from Brisbane for her 4th war patrol. Initially she was ordered to patrol in the South China Sea off Hainan. Later she shifted her patrol area to Singapore.

15 Feb 1945
USS Perch (ii) (Lt.Cdr. B.C. Hills) ended her 4th war patrol at Fremantle, Australia.

12 Mar 1945
USS Perch (ii) (Lt.Cdr. B.C. Hills) departed from Fremantle for her 5th war patrol. She was ordered to patrol in Makassar Strait.

20 Mar 1945
USS Perch (ii) (Lt.Cdr. B.C. Hills) lands men on east coast of Borneo.

22 Mar 1945
USS Perch (ii) (Lt.Cdr. B.C. Hills) sank the Japanese Communication Vessel No.463 with gunfire in Makassar Strait off the east coast of Borneo in position 01°03'S, 117°20'E.

15 Apr 1945
USS Perch (ii) (Lt.Cdr. C.D. McCall) departed from Fremantle for her 6th war patrol. She was ordered to patrol in the Java and South China Seas.

26 Apr 1945
USS Perch (ii) (Lt.Cdr. C.D. McCall) is damaged by depth charges off North Borneo in position 05°32'N, 116°07'E, but is able to remain on patrol.

5 Jun 1945
