History

USS Perch (Lt.Cdr. David Albert Hurt) was sunk during her 2nd war patrol east of Soerabaya.

On 1 March she was depth-charged and damaged by Japanese destroyers Amatsukaze and Hatsukaze (both offsite links), about 75 nautical miles west of Bawean Island, in the Java Sea, in position 06º30'S, 113º50'E.

On 2 March she was depth-charged and damaged by Japanese destroyer Ushio (offsite link), in the Java Sea.

On 3 march she was scuttled by her own crew after being further damaged by the Japanese destroyers Ushio and Sazanami (both offsite links) The entire crew (5 officers and 54 men) were rescued by the Japanese destroyers.

USS Perch (Lt.Cdr. David Albert Hurt) left Manila for her first war patrol.

27 Dec 1941
USS Perch (Lt.Cdr. David Albert Hurt) torpedoed and damaged the Japanese supply ship Noshima (7190 GRT) in the South China Sea in position 22°14'N, 115°13'E. Perch was damaged by depth charges during this attack and she went to Darwin, Australia to repair the damage.
