The British merchant Cyclops is torpedoed and sunk by German U-boat U-123 about 125 miles southeast of Cape Sable, Nova Scotia, Canada in position 41°51'N, 63°48'W. HMCS Red Deer (T/Lt. A. Moorhouse, RCNR) later picks up 95 survivors.

9 Aug 1944
HMS L 27 (Lt. J.N. Elliott, RN) conducted A/S exercises off Bermuda with HMCS Trillium (T/Lt. K.E. Meredith, RCNVR), HMCS Red Deer (T/Lt. D.B.D. Ross, RCNVR), HMCS St. Lambert (T/Lt. R.C. Hayden, RCNVR) and HMCS Kentville (T/Lt. F.G. Rainsford, RCNVR). (1)
