13 Dec 1941
Around 1600R/13, the British light cruiser HMS Diomede (Capt. D. Orr-Ewing, RN) departed Balboa to escort the Norwegian transport Ferncliff (4333 GRT, built 1924) to the Galapagos Islands where the Americans were building a base on Seymour Island.
Around 1100R/14, the American light cruiser USS Richmond (Capt. J.H. Brown, Jr., USN) joined company followed around 1330R/14 by her sister ship USS Trenton (Capt. A.D. Struble, USN).
Around 0730RS/17, USS Trenton, USS Richmond and the Ferncliff were detached to Seymour Island. HMS Diomede set course to return to Balboa. USS Trenton rejoined her around 1430RS/17 and HMS Richmond did the same around 1600RS/17.
They arrived at Balboa, Panama Canal Zone around 1700R/19. (2)

Around 1100M/26, in position 25°53'S, 179°45'E, HMAS Adelaide (Capt. H.A. Showers, RAN) turned over the escort duties of the troopship President Coolidge (American, 21936 GRT, built 1931) to USS Richmond (Capt. J.H. Brown, Jr., USN). (3)
