History | After being commissioned, USS Borie was assigned to occupation duty in the Middle East until early 1921. Assigned to the Asiatic Fleet, Borie protected the U.S. way of life in the Far East before being assigned to the Caribbean in 1927. In 1939, she was assigned to the neutrality patrol, guarding the Panama Canal and the eastern seaboard. USS Borie (Lt Charles Harris Hutchins,USNR) sank from damage received after ramming U-405 in the North Atlantic in position 50º12'N, 30º48'W, 27 of her crew were lost and 130 survivors were rescued by the USS Barry/Goff which include the commanding officer. |

USS Borie picks up 9 survivors from the American merchant Merrimack in position 20°48'N, 85°30'W. The Merrimack was torpedoed and sunk on 10 June 1942 by German U-boat U-107 about 60 nautical miles off Cozumel Island, south of the Yucatan Strait in position 19°47'N, 85°55'W.

German U-boat U-405 was sunk in the North Atlantic, in position 49°00'N, 31°14'W, by ramming, small arms fire and depth charges from the US destroyer USS Borie.
