Converted to High Speed Transport APD-29 on 15 January 1944
Barry was irreparably damaged by a Japanese kamikaze aircraft on 25 May 1945. She was decomissioned on 21 June 1945 and later on that day she was towed from the harbor of Kerama Retto to be used as a decoy for the kamikazes. While under tow she was attacked by Japanese kamikaze planes and sunk along with her escort LSM 59.
