History

USS Johnnie Hutchins was named after Johnnie who was killed in action aboard USS LST 473 in the southwest Pacific on 4 September 1943 during the assault on Lae, New Guinea. More on this can be found at this website (offsite link).

Decommissioned 14 May 1946.
Recommissioned 23 June 1950.
Decommissioned 25 February 1958.
Stricken 1 July 1972.
Sold 5 February 1974 and broken up for scrap.

USS Carbonero (Cdr. C.L. Murphy, USN) ended her 1st war patrol at Subic Bay, Philippines. She was escorted in by USS Johnnie Hutchins (Lt.Cdr. H.M. Godsey, USNR).

At Subic Bay she was refitted by USS Howard W. Gilmore and a relief crew of Submarine Division 222.

20 Jul 1945
USS Blueback (Cdr. M.K. Clementson, USN) ended her 3rd war patrol at Subic Bay, Philippines. She was escorted in by USS Johnnie Hutchins (Lt.Cdr. H.M. Godsey, USNR).
